In the heart of The Woodleigh Mall, resides our DPA studio, near the atrium. This June, we were involved in multiple fronts, a workshop, a judging seat, and a guest performance, and it turned out to be a great showcase of what our community actually looks like. Woodleigh Has Talent is an event led by The Woodleigh Mall to feature young talents through the love for K-POP.
The Open Workshop
On 22 June, Ms Mischa led an open dance workshop for this event, open to the public passing through. It's one thing to teach in a studio, and another to teach with shoppers and mall-goers stopping to watch, a fun, high-visibility way to bring dance out of the studio and into the neighbourhood. We were stoked to witness the good vibes and the support of the community, through the love of K-POP.
The Competition
The competition itself ran on 28 June, with Ms Jolene taking on the role of judge. By all accounts, it was fun and fierce, a genuinely competitive lineup, and several Dancepointe students stepped up and joined the competition themselves, putting their own training to the test outside of our usual events.
The Guest Performance
Our DFK Team, Ms Miji's MXITE, performed as guest performers at the event, representing DPA and Dance Factory on a stage right in our own backyard. We are so proud to see them on stage sharing their passion and energy. We hope for more opportunities for our hardworking competition team students.
A Big Thank You
A huge thank you to The Woodleigh Mall for having us be part of this week's worth of fun! It was an honour to teach, judge and perform at such an amazing event for the mall, and we're grateful for the opportunity to bring our dancers out to celebrate alongside the community.
Why Opportunities Like This Matter
Between the workshop, the judging, the competing students, and the guest performance, Woodleigh Has Talent is a good example of just how many ways our community gets to show up, not limited to Competition Team, and not limited to one kind of involvement either.
Opportunities like this count as real portfolio building for students, whether they're competing, performing as guests, or just showing up to an open workshop. Our teachers guide students through the process every step of the way, and parents get to be part of it too, supporting practice at home beforehand and capturing the moment itself on the day.
If your child is training with us, keep an eye out, opportunities like Woodleigh Has Talent come up throughout the year, and there's more than one way to be part of them.
