Get the Beat 2026 Recap: Why Competition Shapes Young Dancers

This June, our mvAVE & DFK competition teams stepped onto the floor at Get the Beat Singapore 2026 and earned:

This was no easy feat, and we are so proud of the effort our dancers put into executing such amazing performances.
But if you were in the crowd, or you've caught the highlights on our socials, you probably only saw the two minutes on stage or a montage on video. What you didn't see was everything that got them there.
The Grind Behind the Glow-Up
Competition prep isn't just "practice the routine until it's clean." It's:
Drilling the same piece, even when it's frustrating
Learning to take correction on the spot and not take it personally
Performing full-out in front of judges, cameras, and a room full of strangers
Managing nerves, adrenaline, and a tight backstage schedule, all at once
For our younger dancers especially, this is often their first real taste of high-pressure performance. And it changes them.
Our dedicated Hip Hop instructors play a huge role in that journey. They guide these young dancers and shape their mindset to be competition-ready, teaching them grit, strength, and the hunger for excellence. But it's not all intensity, there's room for fun and room for growth. We hold our dancers to real discipline and strong dance ethics, because we're not just building performers, we're building people who carry the art of dance with them.
Why Starting Young Matters
Competition isn't just about trophies, it's a training ground for things that go way beyond dance:
Resilience. Not every run is your best run. Competition teaches kids how to reset after a mistake instead of spiraling over it.
Discipline. Choreo doesn't clean itself. Kids on a comp team learn what consistent effort actually looks like, week after week.
Stage presence. Performing for a judging panel is a different skill from performing for a recital. It builds a kind of composure that carries into exams, interviews, presentations, wherever they end up.
Teamwork under pressure. A group number lives or dies by whether everyone's counts, energy, and spacing are locked in together. That's a lesson in accountability you don't get from a textbook.
More Than Just Group Numbers
Being on the Competition Team also opens up more than group acts, dancers can compete in solo, duo, trio, and ensemble categories too, each one training something a little different.
On top of that, team dancers get access to opportunities beyond the competition floor: an annual overseas immersion programme (our dancers have trained in Korea and Japan over the past two years), acrobatic training, and exclusive chances to train under renowned guest instructors for special events, like our previous LUMINA Showcase 2025 or our upcoming IMPEL programme.
What's Next
Results like these don't happen by accident, they're built through months of training, and they're proof of what our dancers are capable of when they commit to the process.
